Frequently Asked Questions

  • We understand how difficult it is to leave your dog. That’s why we created Tahoe Dog Retreat: a place where dogs can feel loved, engaged, and completely at ease while you’re away. We treat every dog like family, offering the perfect balance of play, adventure, and rest in the heart of Tahoe.

  • All dogs are welcome as long as they’re friendly with both people and other dogs.

Puppies are accepted once they’ve completed all required vaccinations-please call us for details.

Pro tip: Labeling the food container itself makes things even easier!

  • Your dog will enjoy a cozy, home-away-from-home experience at Tahoe Dog Retreat. Pups are free to relax on the furniture, lounge around, and enjoy the comfort of a real home. Each dog gets a morning and evening walk plus access to our fenced backyard for midday playtime. We don’t use kennels—dogs are free to sleep where they’re most comfortable. If your pup has a favorite bed, feel free to bring it along!

  • Yes! We love sharing photos and videos of your dog enjoying their stay. You’ll receive at least one daily update (and often a few extra because we can’t resist those cute moments 🐶).

  • To keep every pup safe and healthy, we ask that all dogs are up to date on a few basic vaccines before their stay.

    Required:

    • Rabies (required by California law for dogs over 4 months old)

    • Distemper/Parvo (DHPP or DAPP)

    Recommended:

    • Bordetella (Kennel Cough) — especially for social dogs who visit parks or play regularly

Just send us a quick photo or copy of your dog’s vaccine record before their first visit. This helps ensure everyone at the retreat stays healthy, happy, and ready for fun! 🌲

  • For the safety and comfort of all guests, male dogs over 8 months must be neutered, though small breeds may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Female dogs may be intact but cannot be in heat during their stay.
